Print the town red. A queer skate risograph print competition

We are raising money for the QUEER SKATE COLLECTIVE to get more feet on boards as we come out of lockdown! From helping restore old boards and buying new ones to protective kit and skate tools we want to start up again being able to offer people the best space to learn no matter your identity or income. We know how many creative people we have in the collective and on our social channels so we are hosting a print competition in collaboration with TWO RATS PRESS.

Anyone can get involved and everyone gets to vote! All the submissions will be voted on by the collective via our social channels and the top 5 voted artworks will be printed and sold with all the profits feeding back into the collective and buying new borrowable boards, safety equipment, DIY materials and more!

All selected artists will receive a full set of the five prints and all artwork will belong to them post-project. All participants will be a part of a digital exhibit of the work on both Instagram and our website with artist bios and where people can find you.

Two Rats Press Riso Advice

Risograph is a print process that builds layer by layer. The machine makes a 'master' stencil of your design and wraps it around the ink drum. The ink is pushed through the stencil onto the paper as the drum rotates. Every new colour requires a new master but you don't have to worry about that because we are only printing in one colour, RED!

1. Create the artwork in black and white, you can preview in colour but the finished product should come to us black and white. Imagine that pure black is 100% red and white is 0% red and build from there!
2. Line art comes out great and gradients are lovely but make sure you don’t have really subtle changes as these may get lost in the print.
3. All work should be submitted at 300dpi as a JPEG and PNG for print and digital exhibition! 4. HAVE FUN!
